Leadership

As you may have noticed, your role as an entrepreneur casts you immediately into a leadership role as soon as you bring in anyone to your business.

Honing your leadership skills will help you grow your business.  As you increase your leadership skills it will also enhance your networking efforts.  As you are seen more and more out in the market place as a leader, people will follow.

Now with that said, you don’t just want to people to follow you.  You will want to inspire and motivate people into becoming leaders in their own right.

In researching this topic I ran across a statement by Andy Christiansen, President of High Capacity Leadership Training in Georgia –

“One of the biggest mistakes many entrepreneurs make is confusing management with leadership.  Management is more about overseeing the accomplishment of tasks – it doesn’t go much beyond that day to day.  Leadership is much bigger than that.  It’s about taking people somewhere by inspiring and motivating them.  If all you’re doing is managing, you’re not really leading.”

After reading that statement it really made me stop and think about what I was doing in my business.

Was I leading or managing?

Well I am going to be very honest here…  I was doing both but; I have to admit I was spending a lot more time managing than leading.  What an eye opener for me!  So I immediately planned on changing that aspect of my business and my team.

How was I going to do that?

One word – Vision

I had been managing my business really just as a task-oriented manger.  I needed to change this with a “vision” of where we were all headed.  Not just how to get there!

So my partners and I got together to discuss what that future would look like and what our team’ s real contribution would be to the marketplace and our new partners and clients.

We finally had a direction that got us all very excited!  We as leaders all have different strengths and would build our vision based on those strengths.

We identified a strong need in the home based business industry of people needing one-one-one help and training with how to start their home business and then how to market it.  That’s where we shine!

With all the different strengths our core leadership team has we could provide years of expertise in many different areas to our clients.  How exciting!

Now there is a vision we needed some with guidelines.

#1 – Integrity

As leaders we “must” do exactly what we say we will do.  Every time.  People are looking for leaders with integrity.  This is our core value in our leadership team and we walk the talk.

#2 – Accountability

Our leadership team set goals and hold each other accountable to those goals.  This really has helped the business continue to move forward.  We also pair up people in our group so they have an accountability partner.  This accountability partner program is also for encouragement and problem solving for both their businesses.

#3 – Mentoring

An important part of being a leader is also finding mentors of your own.  You can spend time with leaders that you know or you can hire a leadership coach.  It is important while looking for the mentors for you or your team to not just decide a mentor by age because of experience.  Wisdom travels both ways!

#4 – Feedback

Be open to receiving leadership feedback from others.  This will only make you a better leader and grow your business.

I have to say that researching this topic really helped me put my leadership and management skills into perspective.  I feel more confident about the direction my business and my team are headed.

Many ways to become an effective marketer is to look around online to figure out what you need. Online changes call for drastic measures in network marketing leadership. It is obvious the top marketers are making a substantial amount of money from following the example of their competitors, friends, coworkers, and even family.

There are some people who do not invest a whole lot of faith in making money online or businesses based on the internet. This does not exclude the possibilities of being able to do so. It will take time to gain a contact list and setting up business associations.

There are only a handful of people who have what it takes by believing in themselves and achieve the actual goals. All it really takes is to be serious and set some time aside to develop the skills necessary to becoming a leader.

There are many people making good money in network marketing and micromanaging the tasks required. Getting to know the people already in the field or currently having friends, family or associates involved in the practices is a good way to get your foot in the door. They will usually give you advice and tips on how to work your way up to the top. Just keep in mind, the other already made marketing leaders were once in the first-timers shoes.

Taking some business administration and leadership courses will increase one’s chance to becoming successful in their trade. Having associates already in the trade is not essential but it cannot be denied that it would greatly increase the chances of accomplishment. There are many tutorials converted to a book, classes or even a tape for the person who does not have the time to spare in a brick-and-mortar college. Having the determination to understand the key-terms and how they are applied in real-world settings will clearly convey your proficiency to others.

Developing the right morals entailing leadership roles and retaining the knowledge to update and renew the skills with changing technology is crucial. Once this is done, the first step has been implemented. Analyzing the target audience and is essential to choosing the right niche.

One will find that the everyday tasks and processes to becoming a leader is quite stressful. Hire some employees and assign particular tasks to them to help spread out the responsibilities. Consistency is the key, if the employees do not follow the guidelines, it will affect the success of your market. Micromanaging is inevitable and the achievement will surely develop but it will take some time.

Nice cars and nice houses do not necessarily indicate that the marketing person is effective. There are always to make money as a marketing pro and some follow black-hat search engine optimization techniques. It is not an effective way to be a leader but rather a way to make money quick using techniques that could possibly degrade the content. Normally one person can do it, but to do it with enlisting others help is preferable.

Some pros enjoy doing what they are doing and while they enjoy it; they will in no way work a day in their lives. Most professionals will outsource their tasks and follow proper network marketing leadership techniques in order to advertise their products productively.

Remember back when you were a kid?

If you had an idea, you tried it.  If it didn’t work you tried something else until you exhausted all your ideas.  Then you tried again the next day!

The reason I bring this up is I was thinking the other day about what it takes to be an entrepreneur.

Remember the lemonade stands?

Lemonade 25 cents!

Look Familiar?

My lemonade story:

I remember typing up little business cards when I was about 12 and handing them out in the neighborhood to offer window washing service.  My girlfriend Ann and I wanted to go to the State Fair.

By the way, typing up those little business cards meant using a kid’s typewriter.  It had one ball in the center that had all the letters on it and you had to dial it to the right letter.  One letter at a time!  It took days to create enough cards to get started.

But we were bound and determined to earn enough money to go have a good time at the Fair.  We worked for 2 months that summer washing a lot of windows.  We finally had enough money earned to have a wonderful time at the Fair.

We had an idea, followed our plan, worked hard and then enjoyed our very first time of paying our own way in life!

As children we seem to have the ability to look at the world differently than when we are adults.  Children are very creative and if left alone will come up with all kinds of wild ideas.

Then comes all the training to become an adult…

You must fit in!
You must stand still!
You must not speak out!
You must…etc  (I could go on for a long time)

All of this training teaches us to be little robots that fit into the “normal” category and if by chance you don’t fit into the “plan” you are weird.

We were all taught to go to college, get a job and work for the next 40 years so you can retire and enjoy life.  Well, life just passed you by!

After spending almost 30 years in the corporate world I finally got my “kid” back!  I decided not to spend any more time making money for someone else and taking any more time away from my family.

I took an idea I had about working from home and tried it.  I took a chance and left my job (a good paying job at that).  Then I failed making my first business work.  I tried to be just like everyone else online.  That just does not work!  There is only one me and I needed to celebrate that, just like any kid.

I started to promote me (‘cause there is only one!) and started to make connections with people.  What fun!  I am so glad I got my “kid” back and decided to be an entrepreneur!

Go get your “kid” back and follow your passions in life.  Only you can make that decision.  Only you can make the transformation to get your “kid” back.

Your Life = Your Choice.  Period.

Please share your “kid” story in the comments!
